Beef and pork processing plant labor costs

Federal and state legislators recently enacted policies to fund new renovated small local meat processors expansion with the aim of increasing meat-processing sector's resiliency. Wages must be competitive attract employees for these plants competitive. No previous studies have examined what has happened employee labor costs at United States (US) since early 2000s. This study estimates how firm size affects wages in US. We use average beef pork processing from 2007 2019. find larger pay higher than smaller ones, which is likely attributable lower fixed resulting economies scale. Findings suggest that facilities more 500+ will most offer wage are high enough recruit workers this industry. Small need increase real historical averages. Thus, if resiliency, then it come a cost terms bills. [EconLit Citations: Q12, Q18].
